Depression, Grief and Anxiety

Depression, Grief and Anxiety

It is my own sense and experience of profound grief that is validating in my work with those who suffer the loss of a loved one. It is this deep personal connection that I share with clients who are going through the unimaginable. Disregard the literature of the stages of grief or how to grieve. We all grieve in our own way and feelings are never wrong or right. It's natural to feel defeated, depressed, and in some cases even relieved. There is no shame in the various ways grief can affect us. How we carry on and function within these domains is what is important. I will never tell you to "get over it". Instead, one must process their own unique experience and honor their feelings without allowing the experience to overwhelm them on a daily basis so that you can go forth with meaning and purpose.

Anxiety is normal. We all feel anxious at times. It's natural, even biological that we feel nervous in certain situations. It is not normal however, to allow our feelings of anxiety to overtake our normal ability to function. Talking about ways that anxiety affects us is important in our ability to overcome uncomfortable situations in our daily lives. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to help those experiencing distressing levels of anxiety to overcome their fears. We will work on how we perceive ourselves which will determine our strengths and help us in our action planning for overcoming debilitating anxiety.
